Race for Education

On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Our Lady of Grace School held their second annual Race for Education.  The children ran around a 1/4 mile track for one hour.  We were blessed with a beautiful day for running!  Mrs. Ricketts dressed as an angel, the running club helped everyone stretch before they began running, some wonderful young men from the ROTC ran with the children, and we even had a visit  from the Chick-Fil-A cow!

The North County News attended the Race and posted some pictures to their website, which can be found at http://www.baltimoresun.com/explore/baltimorecounty/ph-nc-race-for-education-pg,0,6608148.photogallery.

This year the school raised mre than $19,000 to purchase a WeatherBug Station and other essential education needs to enhance our STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).  The WeatherBug Station was installed over the winter.  You can log onto www.weatherbug.com or ownload the WeatherBug app for your smart phone, set the city to Parkton, MD and be able to see live camera views from the school!

Meterologist Wyatt Everhart from ABC Channel 2, visited the school to talk to the students and faculty about the weather and the WeatherBug.  If you watch Channel 2, you will see that he sometimes shows the weather from our camera!  The students had a blast at the assembly!

Thank you to everyone for your support!  The Race for Education is a great FUNdraiser that the children really enjoy because they are part of the process from the beginning - from writing the mailers, to running, and then to seeing what their hard work has gone towards.
