We continue to work on our reading strategies and are now working with Reading Strategy "inference". Every Thursday we conference using our reading strategies of Clarify, Question, Predict, and making Connections-Background Knowledge, and Inferring.
The students are starting a writing project, our first essay. It is a patriotic essay titled "How Can I Encourage My Friends to Show Pride in Being an American?" This essay is sponsored by the Parkton American Legion. The students are enjoying writing about how proud they are to be an American!
The fourth grade continues reading with the preschool 4 years olds. Every Wednesday, one fourth grade student reads his or her favorite story book to the preschool class. The two classes then partner together to read. The fourth graders as well as the preschool 4's are so excited to read! It is the highlight of our Wednesday!
Religion
We ended the year with learning about Advent and Christmas and are now working on learning the parts of the Mass. We are excited to have Fr. Sam as a speaker in the next few weeks. We continue to learn our Commandments in Chapter 15, working on the 4th, "Honor Your Father and Your Mother." We are also learning about how God wants us to love and respect each other and our families. We continue on with working together for peace.

We have just completed Chapter 7, multiplication of two and three digit numbers. Chapter 8 will cover division with and without remainders, estimate quotients, solve problems that result in a 2 digit quotients and quotients with zeros, divide with 3 digit dividends, and choosing the best strategy for problem solving.
Middle School Showcase
To kick off the New Year, the fourth grade class will start their project with the Middle School. The fourth grade will partner with fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades to work together on a project for the Middle School Showcase on February 3. Projects will cover subjects in I.L.A, Science, and Social Studies. This is a very exciting time for the fourth grade to have the opportunity to work with the Middle School.
