ILA
The 4th grade has just finished Unit 5.  In Unit 5 Grammar we covered adjectives that compare, punctuation, using  “a” and “an” correctly, introductory phrases, comparing “more” and “most”, and combining sentences.  In Phonics/Spelling we worked with consonant + le syllables, closed and open syllables, vowel teams, and r-controlled vowel syllables.  The strategies that we concentrated on were Compare/Contrast, Main Ideas and Details, Sequencing, and Analyze Text Structure.   We will be starting our final Unit 6 next week.
Math
We completed Chapter 12 involving Measure Capacity, Weight, and Volume.  We are continuing on in Chapter 13 with describing and comparing fractions.  Going into Chapter 14, the 4th grade will learn about using place value to represent decimals.  We will end with Chapter 15, adding and subtracting decimals.
Religion
In 4th grade Religion, we are finishing up Unit 4, our last unit.  We discussed how the virtue of modesty helps us to be pure of heart and to trust in God above all things.  We developed our understanding of Jesus as our model for holiness.  We learned that the Church is a worldwide community and that we all have responsibilities as members of the Church to take an active role in the Church community.   We end our Unit 4 with the virtues of faith, hope, and love and Mary as our model for virtue and discipleship.  We will be beginning the “Family Life” series next week.
Summary
The 4th grade had the pleasure of using the “Our door classroom/Bird Sanctuary” and loved it.  We journal and shared our thoughts about nature and being Stewards of God’s Creation.  Who would have thought that an outdoor classroom would improve sentence structure and vocabulary in writing!
The 4th grade has been very excited using Smartboard in ILA, Math, and Religion as well as Computer, Library and Science/Social Studies.   Smartboad in the classroom has elevated learning to a new level and enthusiasm!
